Opening of Tafea Cultural Centre
The Vanuatu Cultural Centre and the Chiefs of Nikoletan Council are pleased to announce the opening of the Tafea Cultural Centre (TKS). A ceremony to celebrate the opening of TKS will be held at Lenakel Yard on Tuesday 20 July.
The Director of the Vanuatu Cultural Centre (VKS), Mr Marcelin Abong, and the Director of the Film and Sound Unit at VKS Chief Jacob Kapere, extend a warm invitation to attend this historical event.
The day will commence with a parade to TKS, welcome kastom dance and flag raising ceremony. Delegates will present welcome speeches and include Chief Simo (Chairman of the Nikoletan Council), Mr Nicolas Berlanga (Chargée Affaires of the European Union), Mr Ken Osea (President of Tafea Province) and Mr Moana Carcasses (Minister of Internal Affairs).
The inaugural TKS exhibition will then be opened, and features photographs by fieldworker Posen Sam and David Becker. Mr Mark Tabani will present a talk on the Tafea digital kastom library, to be followed by the screening of Dansiloa (VKS production). The day will conclude with a kava ceremony at Lamenu Namakal.

Director of the Cultural Centre, Ralph Regenvanu, was honoured on two separate occasions in November 2006 for the work he has done over the past 12 years with the Cultural Centre and in the field of culture more generally in Vanuatu - by the Government of France and by the fieldworkers of the Cultural Centre
