Taem Bifo, Taem Nao’ was the title of the successful exhibition created by the Vanuatu National Heritage Registry and the Vanuatu Cultural Centre. This exhibition presented a selection of protected historical buildings and sites of Port Vila and surrounds.

Vanuatu's tentative site list for World Heritage nomination

As a signatory to the World Heritage Convention, Vanuatu is required to submit to the World Heritage Centre a "tentative list" of sites which Vanuatu considers possible candidates for nomination as World Heritage sites. In December 2006, the following sites were listed on Vanuatu's tentative list of potential World Heritage sites:
1) The Nowon and Votwos of Ureparapara
2) The Roimata Domain
3) Yalo, Apialo and the sacred geography of Northwest Malakula
4) The President Coolidge
5) Vatthe Conservation Area
6) Lake Letas

Matantas is now the most northern Lapita site yet discovered in Vanuatu and the first on the mainland of Santo. Previously Lapita was only known from Malo, Aore, Tutuba and Mavea Islands off the Santo coast. This is a significant discovery of Vanuatu’s cultural heritage and will add to the picture of the Nation’s first inhabitants that is being built up from the recent Lapita discoveries at Teouma on Efate

The Roi Mata Cultural Tourism Project

The tourism project has been developed in conjunction with the upcoming World Heritage nomination of ‘Chief Roi Mata’s Domain’, which comprises three cultural sites in the Lelepa Region each of which are significant to the oral, material and archaeological history of Chief Roi Mata. It is hoped by many of those involved that this tourism project, which has begun as a somewhat unique and collaborative effort in bringing two village settlements together, will become a future example of successful and sustainable, community-based heritage tourism

The Minister of Internal Affairs has classified 77 buildings and sites in and around Port Vila as protected sites of historical, ethnological or artistic interest. This classification means that these building and sites cannot be destroyed or modified without permission from the Minister.
