‘Taem Bifo, Taem Nao’ was the title of the successful exhibition created by the Vanuatu National Heritage Registry and the Vanuatu Cultural Centre. This exhibition presented a selection of protected historical buildings and sites of Port Vila and surrounds.

The Municipal Council of Port Vila funded this exhibition and at the opening on Port Vila Day the mayor of Port Vila Paul Avock Hungai and the Mayor of Dumbea city in New Caledonia officially opened the exhibition on the 29th of November at Espace Culturel. The Vanuatu National Heritage Registry would also like to acknowledge the hardworking staff of the Vanuatu Cultural Centre and the Exhibition Team, in particular Marcelin Abong, Thomas Nagof, Jacob Kapere, Isabelle Petri and Presley Tari. These staff assisted greatly with the set-up, research and compilation of the information.

In total, 1136 people turned up to see the exhibition and there was a lot of feedback from the locals and also the expatriates.

“Ce show me rappelle ma jeunesse, le bon temps, J’ai 70 ans et me rappelle de tous”

This satisfying comment came from an elderly person that attended the exhibition and because of such positive feedback, VKS and VNHR acknowledges their duty to ensure that the public are satisfied with the work that continues with the protection and documentation of our historical buildings and sites. This well-received exhibition also creates awareness of our role as citizens of Port Vila to ensure that our history and culture is protected, preserved and promoted and to realize the significance of our past.
